California Faience

The California Faience company was founded in 1915, in Berkeley, California, by William Bragdon and Chauncey Thomas. They both taught at the California School of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, California. They produced art pottery, bowls, jars, vases, art tile and more.

Bragdon made the molds while Thomas did the glazes. The glazes had high gloss on buff or red bodies. Their shop was known as “The Tile Shop”. They sold the pieces in the front, while making them in the back. At one time, they made tiles for William Randolph Hearst’s San Simeon.

They closed down in the late 1930’s due to the Great Depression.

I am looking for pink, turquoise, and black California Faience tiles to complete an
original bathroom scheme entered around a ship tile, which is turquoise and light pink.

I now live in England at 6 Wilderspin Close, Cambridge CB3 0LZ, United Kingdom; but
the bathroom is at 1590 LeRoy Avenue, Berkeley 94708

Can you sell me enough to tile a bath surround? Or can you suggest a place I could look?
    Yours,
    Shelley Hampden-Turner
