The Central Glass Company was founded in 1863, in Wheeling, West Virginia, by former workers of Barnes, Hobbs and Company. They produced high end art glass, barware, tableware, colorless and colored handmade glass and much more. Most of the pieces were made in Depression Era colors like green, black, pink, light blue, ruby red and more.

The factory was closed from 1893 – 1895 but reopened again in 1896, when Nathan B. Scott purchased the company and renamed it Central Glass Works.
The Central Glass Company was closed in 1939 due to increased foreign competition and they sold their molds to Imperial Glass Company.

eBay had a Duck on Cattails glass covered dish. It was described as Central Glass, 1880’s, very rare. If there are no known markings for Central Glass, then how is this determined? It is a beautiful piece and the base has fish, cattails and such molded in the glass. Please advise if this is indeed a Central Glass item. Thank you.
