Fenton Art Glass Company was founded in 1905, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, by Frank L. Fenton and his brother, John W. Fenton. They started off painting decorations on glass blanks purchased from other glass companies.

On January 2, 1907, they opened up a factory in Williamstown, West Virginia, and started making glass. They first started making carnival glass from 1907 until 1920, with Frank Fenton being the lead designer. While some of the designs were influenced by Tiffany and Steuben, they became known for their iridescent dark glass, with gold coloring over pressed glass. The glass began to be sold in bulk as carnival prizes and became known as carnival glass. They produced over 150 patterns.

During the Great Depression and World War I, they also produced tableware, kitchenware and household items.

During the 1930’s, they produced perfume bottles for the Wrisley Company using Opalescent glass with a Hobnail pattern.

During the 1950’s, they produced milk glass with Hobnail milk glass becoming one of the most popular patterns.

During the 1960’s, they added special lines like the Bicentennial Series and the Colonial line in 1963.

During the 1970’s, they introduced Burmese, a yellow and pink creation. They also used animals and children in their designs. In 1975, they hired Robert Barber, who produced hand-blown art glass vases.

In 1986, Frank’s son, George W. Fenton became president of the company after the death of one of the founders. In August 2007, Fenton discontinued most of their lines and ceased production in 2011.

Found a milk glass hobnail vase with beautiful glass flowers. The Fenton name is on the bottom and I got it for .25. I love it but cannot find anything about milk glass with handmade flowers. Can anyone help me.

Information for Fenton French white opalescent swirl pitcher and glasses I believe it was made in 1939. Pitcher also has a lip to hold ice back.

I have a hand painted Fenton glass slipper. Its signed saying hand painted by but I can’t make out the name. I can’t find one on any website matching the color or painting. Its a pearl color with gold outlines and gold heel,also small pink flowers and white roses. Can anybody please give me any kind of information about it?
