Benjamin Harker, Sr. hired a potter to teach his sons, Benjamin Harker, Jr. and George S. Harker, the trade. In the 1850’s, they were making yellowware, whiteware, as well as Rockingham inspired, brown-glazed pottery. In 1931, they moved to the plant to Chester, West Virginia, to get away from the constant flooding.

One of Harker’s most popular lines was Cameoware, where a design was cut into the colored glaze. They were also well known for wares using the Pate Sur Pate method, which they called Royal Gadroon. It was a paste method that created a decorative white border. Other popular lines include items with the Autumn Leaf pattern inspired by Hall China and dinnerware designed by Russel Wright.

The company was sold to the Jeannette Glass Company in 1969, and it closed down a few years later in 1972.

Would like to know if the Blue Cameoware by Harker is ovenproof? I have a full 12place setting with covered casseroles and pie plates, and I would like to know if they are oven proof.

My mom gave me her beloved dessert platter and 6 plates with fruit and flowers in a basket. My dad bought it for her in the 60’s and she cherished it, displaying but never using it. I immediately put it in my China cabinet, also. We’re moving and when I took it out, it had very fine cracks and has discolored to a brown color. Im heartbroken. I lost my mom in 2017 and she would be, too.

I have many of the HAR16 set (B.J. Wilkinson mentions in the comments). Only missing a few of the tea cups. I believe my mom purchased the set sometime in the late 70s or early 80s.

I have a Harker Hotoven bowl

    Hello,

I have been collecting a Rosebud pattern with the royal gadroon edges…the rosebuds are not on the inside of the plates, but around the outer edges and the inside is blank. They are a creamy off white. The tea cups have gold edges. I am trying to find out when they were produced? I could send a picture.
Is anyone answering all the questions in this forum?

    Thank you in advance,

    Jdockus@hotmail.com

I have a piece that says in gold cursive “Royal Dresden by Harker EST 1840”. Anyone have any idea what that means?

  15. Coral Jensen Messar September 4, 2017

To Pam Garris: I have some pieces in the Apples and Pear pattern if still looking: a pie plate, salt and pepper shakers, rolling pin, “drips” container and a serving bowl with lid. All are in perfect condition except the serving bowl which has a few nicks.

  16. Jan May 7, 2017

FYI..the 1840 on the backstage does NOT mean yout pieces date from
1840. That’s the year Harker was founded
Harker typically does not date their pieces.
For those wanting to know about the braided edge, it’s called gadroon.

I have an entire set of 8 Harker Pottery dishes, including a serving bowl, creamer and sugar dish. You have a creamer of the same set posted on this site. It has pink yellow, and peach colored roses on it. Your post says it’s numbered 1211, and that they are from 1940. Any idea what my whole set would be worth? There is a chip in the serving bowl but I have the piece, every other piece looks good. I could send a picture.

I have a Harker “hotoven” cookware bowl. The designs on the outside are scenes of a man wearing a sombrero, a woman carrying a jug on her head, an ox and wagon in front of some clay roofed houses. It has a dark blue rim around the top edge . I inherited this bowl and am curious about the age of it. Can you give me an idea of when it was made and the name of this attractive design? Thank you.

  29. G. Moran December 12, 2014

I have a harker pottery pitcher. It’s green with a black border on top with a cat as a handle. It has slight chip on top and it’s number 61. Can you tell me anything of it. It has a stamp on it 18440 liverpool .

  30. B.J. Wilkinson October 22, 2014

I wish to find out more about the set I have been building for 6 years now, so far it has only been identified as HAR16 on a replacements website. And the creamer only, has 6207 stamped underside. With the usual Harker Gold Bow & Arrow design with “made in the USA” & since 1840.

Pieces have a thicker painted brilliant yellow border on a white background (depending on the piece) others have a yellow background covered in the same stunning gold leaf, which is done with small, very detailed gold leafing in a rose design on top of the yellow.

It looks rather regal in its own way. Each piece has a thin gold border pained on the edges, handles have a gold stripe or three on white as well.

I’d like to know all the pieces that were made available in this design & how many pieces were considered a full & complete set?

I have many of the more difficult pieces currently, like the serving platter, gravy boat, creamer & sugar bowl.

I’d like to know the history of this pattern, the name if any, (slang or otherwise) the time frame it was produced & if this was a big seller or a smaller production line?

I got my original pieces as a very incomplete set at a thrift store in San Francisco for $25 right after they were donated, the moment I saw them I had to have them & I promised myself I’d get it all completed or die trying, it’s 50/50 right now.

Now I’ve spent ten times that original amount buying the missing pieces, it’s gone past passion at this point & it’s become obsession, what’s worse is I’m still a dozen pieces shy of a setting for 6, I think.

Any legit direction to possible places to buy additional pieces (Dinner Plates, Teacups & Coupe Soup Bowls) is appreciated, as well as any answers to the aforementioned questions. Thanks for any possible info in advance.
