Zsolnay, formerly known as Zsolnay Porcelánmanufaktúra Zrt (Zsolnay Porcelain Manufacture), was a Hungarian manufacturer of pottery, glass, china, ceramics, stoneware, porcelain, tiles and much more.
Zsolnay was started in 1853, in Pécs, Hungary by Miklós Zsolnay, to produce stoneware, pottery and other products. Vilmos Zsolnay joined the company in 1863 and became the manager and director several years later. In 1899, Vilmoss son, Miklos became manager.
Early pieces were glazed and highly ornamental, having a cream colored ground.
Zsolnay ceramics are known for their use of Eosin glaze introduced in 1893 and winning a gold medal at the 1900 Paris exhibition.

no marks prior to 1878
From 1878, a tower trademark was used consisting of five towers of the cathedral at Pécs. The initials “TJM” was also used for some pieces representing Miklo’s three children.
