Sandwich glass was founded in 1825, in Sandwich, Massachusetts, by Deming Jarves. They first known as the Sandwich Manufacturing Company, then changed their name when it was incorporated to Boston & Sandwich Glass Company. They created clear and colored glass using free blown, blown three mold and pressed glass manufacturing techniques.
Jarves was the general manager from 1826 until 1858. After he left, they focused more on mass production and using lime glass which was cheaper to produce.
After operating at a loss, the company closed down on January, 1, 1888.
Other companies like Duncan & Miller, Indiana Glass, Anchor Hocking and Tiara Exclusives made Sandwich glass as well and sometimes it’s hard to tell the patterns apart.
