Moorcroft pottery was founded in 1913, in Burslem, Staffordshire, England, by William Moorcroft. William first worked for James MacIntrye & Company as a designer for his ceramics factory from 1898 to 1913, before starting his own pottery company. They produce earthenware vases using proprietary glazes, many with floral patterns.

Moorcroft Pottery won medals in 1904 at the St. Louis Worlds Fair for his pottery. In 1927, Moorcroft Pottery was recognized by Queen Mary by being appointed Limited Potters to H.M. The Queen. In 1929, William was awarded the Royal Warrant.

William Moorcroft died in 1945 and his son Walter took over the business until 1984.

In 1986, the firm was owned by Sally and Richard Dennis. Since 1993, the first has been owned by Maureen and Hugh Edwards. That same year, Rachel Bishop joined the firm bringing along exciting, new designs.

The pottery is still in operation today.

I have a three-piece coffee service, signed W.Moorcroft, 1914, Shreve and Co., San Francisco. The pattern is of Suillus luteus mushrooms in, deep mauve, rust brown and gold tones, the handles are overlaid in silver, the coffeepot’s spout engraved in a floral pattern.

I would like to find a buyer for this unusual pottery service.
