Kosta was founded in 1742 by Anders Koskull and Georg Bogislaus Stael von Holstein and is the oldest Swedish glass factory. The name Kosta comes from the founders surnames.

From the 1920s – 1950s, they became one of the leaders in Sweden of fine art and tableware. They also made bottles, window glass, drinking glasses, glass chandeliers, glassware, crystal, vases and much more.
In 1903, the company merged with the Reijmyre glassworks but kept their names.
In 1964, Kosta and Boda merged and became the Afors Group in 1971. In 1976, the company changed their name to Kosta Boda. They merged with Orrefors in 1990 and continue to make products today.
