Baccarat

Baccarat glass has been made since 1764, by La Compagnie des Cristalleries de Baccarat, France, about 150 miles from Paris. They first got permission from King Louis XV to make stemware, mirrors and window panes. They produce many types of crystal glassware, paperweights, vases and much more. They own a couple of museums and some of their work can be found at exhibitions at the Louvre or Victoria and Albert Museum.

Some of the first lead crystal produced was in 1816. They went bankrupt but began operations again in 1822.

In 1823, they began making stemware for royalty, King Louis XV. Thru the years, they’ve also produced everything from vodka glasses for Czar Nicholas II, to crystal stemware for Charles X and Franklin Roosevelt.

From 1845 until 1880, they made cane and millefiori paperweights. They usually had birds or flowers inside.

In 1855, they won the Grand Medal of Honor at the Exposition Universelle. In 1860, they added the Baccarat mark on all Baccarat glass from 1860 until 1936.

Baccarat perfume bottles became very popular during the early 1900’s. By 1907, they were producing 26 times as much compared to ten years earlier.

During the middle 1900’s, they were expanding and opening shops worldwide, with a retail outlet opening up in New York in 1948.

The company is still in operation today making glasswares and paperweights.

I think I have 2 Baccaract opaline vases they have a fluted top and have birds and flowers the only marks are a 6 and a7 on the bottom
